As the 98th Academy Awards approach on March 15, 2026, organizers are taking additional steps to ensure the safety of Hollywood’s most high-profile event. While no direct threat to the ceremony has been confirmed, federal agencies have issued alerts prompting enhanced security protocols.
According to ABC News, the FBI reportedly warned California authorities about the potential for drones being used by Iran. Although no specific targets or plans have been verified, officials are treating the warning seriously. Authorities emphasize that the Oscars themselves are not under immediate threat, but the prominence of the event warrants extra precautions.
This year, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is coordinating closely with the LAPD, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, and federal agencies to ensure the ceremony proceeds safely. At a recent press briefing, Raj Kapoor, executive producer of the 98th Oscars, highlighted the importance of the security measures in place.
“We have one of the best teams in the business handling all aspects of this show, including security,” Kapoor said. “Every year, we monitor global developments and work hand-in-hand with the FBI and LAPD to keep everyone safe.”
Host Conan O’Brien also spoke at the briefing, noting the challenge of balancing entertainment with awareness of current realities: “My job is to always try and hit this very thin line between entertaining people and acknowledging some of the realities.”
Industry insiders report that security around the Dolby Theatre has already been tightened, though many of the measures remain discreet to avoid drawing attention.
