The High Commission of India in Colombo has announced 200 fully funded scholarships for Sri Lankan students for the 2026–2027 academic year.
These scholarships, offered by the Government of India, cover studies at top Indian institutions across a wide range of subjects, excluding Medical, Paramedical, and Law programs.
The scholarships are available under four schemes:
- Nehru Memorial Scholarship Scheme – Supports undergraduate, postgraduate, and PhD programs in Engineering, Science, Business, Economics, Humanities, Arts, and other fields.
- Maulana Azad Scholarship Scheme – Focused on Master’s programs, especially in Engineering, Science, and Agriculture.
- Rajiv Gandhi Scholarship Scheme – Offers undergraduate programs in Information Technology, leading to B.E. and B.Tech degrees.
- Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Commonwealth Scholarship Scheme – Provides support for undergraduate, postgraduate, and PhD studies in multiple disciplines.
Each scholarship covers full tuition fees, a monthly stipend, an annual grant for books and supplies, airfare to India, educational tours, hostel accommodation, and additional benefits.
The selection process will involve coordination between the Government of India and Sri Lanka Ministry of Education.
