Dubai Takes Flight at GITEX 2025: Air Taxi Trials, 7-Minute Smart Inspections, and AI-Driven Transport Innovations

Dubai has officially launched trial operations of its aerial taxi, marking a major step toward introducing commercial urban air mobility by 2026. The milestone, unveiled ahead of GITEX Global 2025, showcases the emirate’s continued leadership in innovation, sustainability, and smart mobility.

The Joby S4 electric air taxi, capable of vertical take-off and landing, is currently being tested under Dubai’s local conditions. Once operational, passengers will be able to travel between key destinations — such as Dubai International Airport and Palm Jumeirah — in just 10 minutes, a journey that currently takes about 45 minutes by car.

The service will be fully integrated with Dubai’s transport network, linking seamlessly with metro, buses, e-scooters, and bicycles, offering residents and visitors a faster, cleaner, and smarter way to move across the city.

⚙️ AutoCheck 360: 7-Minute Smart Vehicle Inspections

Among RTA’s standout innovations at GITEX 2025 is AutoCheck 360, a fully automated AI and IoT-powered vehicle inspection system. It has cut inspection times from 17 minutes to just seven, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and minimal human error — redefining how vehicles are tested for safety and compliance.

🚊 Trackless Tram: Mobility Without Rails

Another futuristic project on display is the Trackless Tram, a next-generation autonomous system that navigates city routes without fixed rails. Using LiDAR, GPS, and optical guidance, it moves seamlessly through streets, reducing both costs and environmental impact compared to traditional trams.

🔍 Safe Tracks System: Laser Precision for Rail Safety

The Safe Tracks Rail Inspection System (ARIIS) leverages laser scanning and computer vision to detect microscopic rail defects, reducing inspection time by 70% while enhancing Dubai Metro’s operational safety.

🚦 Smart Mobility and Traffic Innovation

The Smart Mobility Platform for Safe Cities uses AI and IoT to monitor delivery bikes, school buses, and fleets, analysing routes, speed, and driver behaviour in real time to promote safer streets.

Meanwhile, the Smart Vehicle Network, developed by the Dubai Intelligent Traffic Systems Centre, uses predictive analytics to cut traffic delays by 25% and operational costs by 30%, while enabling real-time data exchange between vehicles and infrastructure.

💡 The Future of AI and Apps

Visitors to GITEX 2025 can also experience RTA’s latest updates to the S’hail and RTA Dubai apps, explore interactive kiosks, and learn about the AI Factory — a cutting-edge hub dedicated to developing self-learning, data-driven systems that will shape the future of Dubai’s smart mobility.
