Sanju Samson added another major milestone to his career, becoming only the 10th batter in IPL history to cross 5,000 runs.
The landmark moment came during a match between Chennai Super Kings and Gujarat Titans at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Sunday, where Samson reached the milestone with a well-timed boundary off Kagiso Rabada in the second over. The achievement was acknowledged with applause from the crowd as he entered an exclusive group of IPL run-scorers.
At 29, Samson’s consistency in the league has been a defining feature of his career. He reached the 5,000-run mark in just 3,555 deliveries, making him the fastest Indian batter to achieve the feat in terms of balls faced.
Overall, only AB de Villiers and David Warner have reached the milestone in fewer deliveries, highlighting Samson’s rapid scoring ability in the tournament.
In the process, he moved ahead of several prominent names in IPL history, including Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, KL Rahul, Suresh Raina, MS Dhoni, and Ajinkya Rahane, further cementing his place among the league’s most consistent performers.
