OpenAI Launches ChatGPT Go in Malaysia, Expanding Affordable AI Access Across Asia

OpenAI has officially launched ChatGPT Go in Malaysia, introducing a budget-friendly subscription plan designed to make advanced artificial intelligence tools more accessible to Malaysians.

The announcement, made on Thursday, comes amid rapid adoption of AI technologies across the country. OpenAI revealed that the number of weekly active ChatGPT users in Malaysia has increased by more than 2.5 times over the past year, highlighting growing public interest in using AI for education, work, and personal needs.

With Malaysia’s National Budget 2026 placing strong emphasis on digital transformation and upskilling, OpenAI said the launch aligns with the nation’s push toward greater digital literacy and inclusion.

Priced at MYR 38.99 (USD 9.25) per month, ChatGPT Go subscribers will gain access to ChatGPT’s most in-demand features — including higher message limits, image generation, file uploads, and personalized memory, all powered by GPT-5, OpenAI’s most advanced model to date.

The company described ChatGPT Go as an everyday AI assistant that can help users with writing, tutoring, editing, “how-to” advice, and even self-care guidance, making advanced AI more practical for daily life.

Following successful rollouts in other countries, particularly India, where paid subscriptions have doubled within a month, Malaysia is among 16 Asian nations joining the new expansion wave.

Nick Turley, Vice President and Head of ChatGPT, said the move reflects OpenAI’s commitment to supporting Malaysia’s digital future:

“Millions of people across Malaysia are turning to ChatGPT to support their learning, creativity, and everyday problem-solving. Malaysia’s Budget 2026 puts tech-driven growth front and center — the launch of ChatGPT Go supports that vision by making advanced AI easy to use and affordable for more people.”

Alongside Malaysia, ChatGPT Go is launching in Afghanistan, India, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Nepal, Thailand, Bhutan, Laos, Pakistan, Timor-Leste, Brunei Darussalam, the Philippines, Vietnam, Cambodia, and the Maldives.
