Kandy Sports Club’s and Sri Lanka’s centre Tarainda Ratwatte has been named to captain the Sri Lanka Tuskers in their upcoming Asia Rugby Emirates Men’s Championship match against South Korea tomorrow(13 June) at the Racecourse Stadium in Colombo.
This will be the 29-year-old Ratwatte’s first time leading the Sri Lanka national 15-a-side test rugby team. Ratwatte, a dynamic centre and reliable place kicker, previously captained the Sri Lanka Youth Under-20 team at the Junior World Rugby Tournament in 2014, highlighting his leadership potential at a young age.
The talented centre made a name for himself at Trinity College Kandy, where he captained the school rugby team to victory in the prestigious Bradby Shield in 2014, earning the Rugby Lion award that same year for his outstanding leadership.
Ratwatte played for Trinity College from 2011 to 2014 and then moved to CR and FC, where he played from 2015 to 2017. He joined Kandy Sports Club in 2017 and has since become an integral part of their success. He holds the title of highest points scorer in the 2025 Dialog Inter-club League season. As an accurate place kicker, Ratwatte has been a key figure in Kandy SC’s success, with the club being the current League Champions.
