Fulham captain Tom Cairney signs new contract until 2025

[ad_1]

Captain Tom Cairney has signed a new deal with Fulham until June 2025.

The 32-year-old’s contract was set to expire this summer, but the club have now extended the midfielder’s time at Craven Cottage by an extra 12 months.

Cairney, who has made 22 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring two goals and providing four assists, first joined Fulham in 2015 from Blackburn Rovers.

This extension could now take him to a decade in west London.

“It means everything to me to extend my contract,” Cairney said. “10 years is a hell of a long time in football, a very rare thing.

“I said from quite early on that Fulham feels like home – a lot of players say that and then move on, but I feel like it’s obvious that I meant it as I’ll still be here 10 years later.

“I just want to thank everyone for the support over the years – the Fulham fans have been incredible with me, and I’ll just look to keep repaying them.”

Cairney has made 306 appearances for the club, scoring 45 goals and providing 36 assists.

He was named club captain at the start of the 2017-18 season, going on to score the only goal of the 2018 Championship play-off final against Aston Villa, a goal that saw Fulham be promoted to the Premier League. He has also made two appearances for the Scotland national team.
