The internationally recognised Walk for Peace entered its second day today (23), with participants continuing their spiritual journey across Sri Lanka.
Today’s route sees the procession travel from the historic Aluvihare Temple to the revered Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, one of the country’s most significant religious landmarks.
The peace walk began yesterday (22) from the Dambulla Cave Temple, led by a group of Buddhist monks headed by Venerable Pannakara Thero.
Carrying a sacred Bodhi sapling from the Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi, the procession aims to promote unity, compassion, and harmony as it moves through major cities.
The initiative follows a similar global effort, where more than 200 monks completed a 110-day peace walk across the United States, travelling from Texas to Washington and drawing worldwide attention.
Now being held in Sri Lanka with state support, the Walk for Peace is set to continue until April 28, bringing together spiritual leaders and devotees in a collective call for peace.
Adding a unique touch to the journey, a dog named Aloka is also accompanying the monks, attracting interest from onlookers along the route.
