Actor-turned-politician C. Joseph Vijay has made a remarkable entry into electoral politics, as final results from the Tamil Nadu Assembly Election 2026 confirm his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), as the single largest force in the state.
Data released by the Election Commission of India shows that results for all 234 seats have been finalized, with the majority threshold set at 118.
In its first-ever electoral contest, TVK secured an impressive 108 seats just 10 short of a simple majority firmly positioning itself at the centre of Tamil Nadu’s political landscape.
The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK)-led alliance won 73 seats, while the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK)-led bloc managed 53. Other parties, including Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK), failed to open their account in the seats.
TVK’s performance marks one of the most significant political breakthroughs in recent Tamil Nadu history, effectively challenging the decades-long dominance of both DMK and AIADMK.
Political analysts attribute Vijay’s surge to strong backing from younger voters and urban constituencies, alongside a campaign that emphasized political change and anti-establishment messaging.
Although TVK has not crossed the majority mark independently, its commanding position places it in a strong position to form the next government either through alliances or external support from smaller groups.
Speaking to supporters after the results, Vijay expressed confidence about forming an administration, describing the outcome as a “people’s victory” and the dawn of a “new political era” in Tamil Nadu.
