Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay has introduced a major relief measure for households, announcing 200 units of free electricity for domestic consumers as one of his earliest decisions in office.
As per Indian media reports, the new benefit will be available to families whose bi-monthly electricity usage does not exceed 500 units. Households consuming above this limit will remain under the existing tariff system, which already provides 100 units of free electricity every two months.
The announcement came shortly after Vijay took oath as Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu on Sunday, following his party’s victory in the 2026 Assembly Elections.
In addition to the power subsidy, the Chief Minister also approved the formation of special task forces aimed at strengthening women’s safety and intensifying anti-drug enforcement across the state.
