Sergio Gor, the U.S. Special Envoy for South and Central Asia, has arrived in Sri Lanka for an official visit, the U.S. Embassy Colombo confirmed.
The envoy’s trip, which runs from March 19 to March 24, includes visits to both Sri Lanka and the Maldives. The agenda focuses on high-level discussions to enhance cooperation in the Indian Ocean region.
During his time in Sri Lanka, Special Envoy Gor will meet with senior officials to strengthen U.S.-Sri Lanka relations and advance collaboration across key sectors. Discussions are expected to address the protection of vital sea lanes, port security, trade and commercial ties, and initiatives to promote a free, open, and prosperous Indo-Pacific region.
In the Maldives, he will engage with government leaders to reaffirm bilateral commitments, boost security cooperation, and explore ways to support infrastructure development and economic growth. The visit will also mark 60 years of diplomatic relations between the United States and the Maldives.
This trip underscores the ongoing efforts by the United States to deepen partnerships and foster stability, security, and economic development in the region.
