At least two people were killed and more than 20 others injured after a double-decker bus overturned in Delhi late Tuesday night, according to Delhi Police.
The Delhi Fire Service said the bus lost control and overturned near the Jhandewalan Temple in the Karol Bagh area. The vehicle, carrying around 25 passengers, was reportedly travelling from Jaipur in Rajasthan.
Authorities received an alert about the accident at approximately 1:08 am, prompting the immediate dispatch of two fire engines. Rescue operations were launched swiftly, and the injured were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment.
An eyewitness, Deepak, an autorickshaw driver, said locals rushed to assist passengers trapped under the bus. “We tried to rescue as many people as possible. A child and a woman were stuck under the bus, and we managed to pull them out,” he told ANI. He also suggested that driver fatigue may have been a possible cause of the accident.
Police have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the crash.
