Sri Lanka’s national rugby team will face another tough challenge as they get ready to meet Hong Kong in their second match of the Asia Rugby Emirates Men’s Championship 2025 on Sunday, in a must-win game for the Tuskers to keep their hopes alive for a place at the Rugby World Cup 2027 in Australia.
After a heartbreaking 34-38 defeat against South Korea in a thrilling opener at the Race Course Grounds in Colombo, the Sri Lankan side is determined to bounce back stronger when they travel to Hong Kong this weekend.
Hong Kong, one of Asia’s top rugby nations, ranked 23 in the world, will start as favourites on their home turf. They crushed UAE 43-10 in their first match in Dubai, earning a valuable bonus point for scoring four tries. This has placed them at the top of the Pool A points table alongside South Korea, both with five points.
Sri Lanka, though beaten in their opener, managed to collect two points — one for scoring four tries and one for losing by less than seven points. These bonus points could play a big part in the final standings after the third round.
