Delay Expected for Apple Foldable Device

Apple’s much-anticipated foldable iPhone could take longer to materialize than previously expected, as new reports indicate the company is still tackling a range of technical obstacles.

A recent report by Nikkei Asia suggests that development has been more complex than initially projected. Sources familiar with the project say early production trials exposed several unexpected challenges, requiring additional time to fine-tune the design and resolve engineering issues. These setbacks are believed to be linked primarily to technical development rather than supply chain problems.

At present, Apple is reportedly working under pressure to overcome these hurdles. If progress slows, the schedule for mass production could be delayed considerably, potentially pushing the launch window to 2027. Earlier projections had pointed to a possible debut in September 2026, likely alongside the next generation of Pro iPhones. However, some analysts, including Tim Long, have suggested the company might opt for a phased rollout—introducing the device first and releasing it later.

Meanwhile, Mark Gurman of Bloomberg, as cited by CNET, maintains that the device could still be unveiled in 2026, underscoring the uncertainty surrounding the timeline. Apple has yet to officially confirm the existence of a foldable iPhone, leaving much of the narrative driven by leaks and speculation.

Prototype models circulating online suggest a book-style design that unfolds into a nearly square display, aimed at improving multitasking capabilities. Still, early reactions have been mixed, with some users questioning aspects such as its width and the possible omission of MagSafe, Apple’s magnetic accessory feature.

There is also no official word on branding. While “iPhone Fold” is widely used as a placeholder, other potential names like “Ultra” have surfaced, hinting that Apple could position the device as a high-end addition to its lineup.

Whenever it launches, Apple will be entering a market that is already crowded. Competitors such as Samsung, Google, OnePlus, Huawei, Honor, and Motorola have already introduced their own foldable devices, increasing the pressure on Apple to deliver a product that stands out in both design and performance.

For now, Apple’s foldable ambitions remain under development, leaving the tech world closely watching for what could be one of the company’s most significant product launches in years.
