Golf legend Tiger Woods has been released on bail after being arrested following a single-vehicle crash on Jupiter Island, Florida. The 50-year-old, a 15-time major champion, faces charges including driving under the influence, property damage, and refusing to submit to a lawful test.
According to the Martin County Sheriff’s Office, Woods’ Land Rover overturned after colliding with a truck on Friday afternoon. Initial assessments did not suggest alcohol was a factor, but authorities noted the possibility of another substance being involved.
Woods exited the vehicle through the passenger side and was not injured in the incident. While he passed a breathalyser test at the scene, he declined to provide a urine sample. Investigators noted signs of impairment during in-depth roadside assessments, though they accounted for Woods’ prior injuries and surgeries in their evaluation.
The crash occurred just before 2:00 p.m. local time, and Woods was held in custody for eight hours, the minimum under state law, before posting bail. Sheriff John Budensiek said investigators did not suspect alcohol use, with the breathalyser showing “triple zeros,” but confirmed Woods had the legal right to refuse certain tests.
While authorities cannot definitively determine what substance may have contributed to the crash, charges related to refusing a lawful test have been filed, and the investigation remains ongoing.
