Sri Lanka is preparing to take delivery of 10 TH-57 Sea Ranger helicopters from the United States, a move aimed at boosting the capabilities of the Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF).
The aircraft left Port Mobile in Alabama on March 15 and are expected to reach Sri Lanka by May 24, according to information from the Sri Lankan Embassy in Washington, D.C.
The TH-57 Sea Ranger, a military adaptation of the Bell 206B-3 Jet Ranger, is designed to support multiple operations such as advanced flight training, disaster relief efforts, and search-and-rescue missions.
Authorities say the new additions will enhance the country’s ability to respond quickly during emergencies and humanitarian situations, while also building on the Air Force’s existing experience operating Bell 206 helicopters.
Earlier this year, in January, a delegation from the Sri Lanka Air Force traveled to the United States to inspect the helicopters and finalize arrangements for their transfer.
The Sri Lankan government has thanked the United States for the contribution, highlighting it as a reflection of the strong bilateral relationship and ongoing cooperation in areas such as security and humanitarian support.
