Sri Lanka Standards Institution has announced that all drinking water bottles provided to school students must now meet the country’s SLS (Sri Lanka Standards) certification requirements. The new rule aims to ensure that the bottles are safe, hygienic, and suitable for regular use by children.
According to officials, the move is part of a broader effort to promote health and safety in schools. Only bottles that comply with SLS standards, which guarantee the use of non-toxic materials and proper manufacturing processes, will be allowed on school premises.
Parents and suppliers are advised to check for the SLS mark when purchasing water bottles for students. Schools will also play a key role in enforcing the standard, ensuring that all drinking containers meet the required safety criteria.
This initiative is expected to reduce health risks associated with unsafe plastic bottles and reinforce the importance of quality standards in products used by children.
