The Ministry of Transport, Highways and Urban Development has announced plans to import 104 new metro buses in August as part of efforts to enhance the efficiency and quality of Sri Lanka’s public transportation network.
The agreement for the procurement was officially signed today (18), confirming the arrival of a modern fleet aimed at improving commuter services across key routes.
According to the Ministry, all 104 buses are expected to arrive in Sri Lanka by August 15, after which they will be prepared for deployment in the public transport system.
In addition to the new fleet, construction work on metro service depots is currently in progress in several locations, including Kadawatha and Ratmalana in the Western Province, to support the expanded operations.
Officials stated that the introduction of these buses is expected to significantly improve service quality, reliability, and overall passenger experience within the country’s public transport system.
