The High Commission of Sri Lanka in Singapore has issued a warning to Sri Lankan nationals living in Singapore, urging strict compliance with immigration rules and advising against overstaying visas or entry passes.
In a notice released on April 15, the mission emphasized that remaining in the country beyond the validity of a visa or immigration pass is considered a serious offence under Singaporean law.
Authorities noted that individuals found guilty of overstaying could face strict penalties, including arrest, prosecution, fines, detention, deportation, and in more severe cases, imprisonment.
The advisory further stated that those who assist or provide shelter to individuals staying illegally in Singapore, including visa overstayers, may also face legal consequences under local regulations.
Sri Lankan nationals were strongly encouraged to regularly monitor the expiry dates of their visas or passes, apply for extensions in advance if eligible, and ensure timely departure before their permitted stay ends.
The High Commission also urged those who have already overstayed to immediately contact Singapore’s Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) for guidance and to take steps to regularize their immigration status.
