A technical issue in the electricity transmission system between Anuradhapura and Vavuniya led to power outages in multiple areas across Sri Lanka, the Ceylon Electricity Board reported.
The incident caused a fluctuation in the frequency of the national power grid, resulting in the automatic shutdown and disconnection of the steam turbine at the Kelanitissa Combined Cycle Power Plant.
This disruption temporarily reduced the national grid’s capacity by approximately 55 megawatts, leading to brief outages in various parts of the country.
Officials from the CEB confirmed that normal electricity supply was restored within a few minutes, minimizing the impact on residents and businesses.
