A targeted mosquito control programme has been launched from today in several high-risk dengue zones across the country to curb the spread of the disease.
According to Dr. Prashila Samaraweera, Consultant Specialist at the National Dengue Control Unit, a total of 43 Medical Officer of Health (MOH) divisions have been identified as high-risk areas requiring urgent intervention.
She further noted that dengue infections have shown an upward trend in six districts, prompting intensified prevention and control measures.
So far this year, 26,071 dengue cases have been reported nationwide. The National Dengue Control Unit also confirmed that 13 dengue-related deaths have been recorded.
Health authorities have urged the public to take preventive action by maintaining clean surroundings, eliminating stagnant water sources, and supporting ongoing mosquito control efforts to reduce the spread of the disease.
Dr. Samaraweera emphasized that community participation remains crucial in preventing further outbreaks and controlling mosquito breeding effectively.
