HBO has unveiled the first official image from its eagerly awaited Harry Potter adaptation.
The photo features a young Harry, portrayed by Dominic McLaughlin, seen from behind as he walks toward the Quidditch pitch, draped in a Gryffindor cloak on a snowy day. A teaser trailer is expected to drop soon, hinted at in the post with the word “tomorrow” accompanied by a lightning bolt emoji, alongside a banner referencing “Fred and George.”
The new series will reimagine J.K. Rowling’s iconic seven-book fantasy saga, which has sold over 600 million copies globally, and whose eight film adaptations collectively earned more than $7 billion at the box office. Each season of the show will cover one book. Francesca Gardiner, known for her work on Succession, serves as showrunner, while Mark Mylod, a veteran of Game of Thrones, is directing several episodes.
The cast includes John Lithgow as Headmaster Albus Dumbledore, Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger, and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley. Other notable cast members are Janet McTeer as Professor Minerva McGonagall, Nick Frost as Hagrid, and Paapa Essiedu in a diverse casting choice as Professor Severus Snape.
JB Perrette, CEO and president of global streaming and games at Warner Bros. Discovery, described the show as “the biggest streaming event in the history of HBO Max and arguably in streaming, period. It’s number one, two and three in many ways.” The series is slated to premiere in 2027.
