Shammi Silva is expected to step down from his position on Wednesday (29), amid growing pressure and high-level discussions within government circles, according to informed sources.
However, it remains uncertain whether the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) Executive Committee will also resign alongside him. Sources indicate that Silva’s decision follows a request made by Anura Kumara Dissanayake.
Insiders revealed that Silva met President Dissanayake last Friday to discuss a potential exit strategy. The meeting is said to have taken place in a cordial atmosphere.
If Silva resigns, authorities are expected to either appoint an interim committee or place the governing body under a competent authority until fresh elections are conducted.
Meanwhile, former Member of Parliament Eran Wickramaratne is being considered for appointment as the next President of Sri Lanka Cricket.
As previously reported exclusively by Daily Mirror, President Dissanayake had requested Silva’s resignation amid increasing pressure from multiple stakeholders, including players, calling for leadership change within SLC.
