The queen of World Cup anthems is back!
On Thursday, Shakira teased the official song of the 2026 World Cup, “Dai Dai.” The singer posted a clip of herself performing on the pitch inside Maracana Stadium in Brazil with a group of dancers. She is wearing a yellow corset and blue jersey skirt with high-top sneakers and her signature hair flowing fiercely.
The video ends with the camera zooming out with fireworks going off over the stadium and a message that says, “We Are Ready” written on the roof. Not to be confused with Archie Eversole’s sports anthem, “We Ready.”
Shakira shared in the caption that the full song is coming May 14 and will feature Afrofusion star Burna Boy. The Nigerian singer released his “No Sign of Weakness” album last year. He was met with criticism during the accompanying tour when he lashed out at a fan who fell asleep in the front row of his historic Red Rocks show. He was also part of the soundtrack for the “F1” movie.
Shakira’s “Waka Waka” is a fan favorite among World Cup anthems. It served as the official song for the 2010 tournament in South Africa. Even though it’s been more than a decade since that song took over international airwaves, Shakira has kept herself relevant by co-headlining the Super Bowl 54 halftime show with Jennifer Lopez.
She has released multiple albums, stole the show as Gazelle in the animated film “Zootopia” and its sequel, and last month, she released “Eurosummer (Girls Trip)” with Zara Larsson.
FIFA will release a full album in promotion of this summer’s World Cup. The lead single, “Lighter,” dropped in March. It is a collaboration between Jelly Roll, Carín León and Cirkut, uniting the three host countries of the United States, Mexico and Canada.
Several fan-made World Cup anthems have been released leading up to the June 11 kick off. “Imbattables,” a song for France by an artist who goes by Crystalo, has more than 1 million YouTube views and has received high praise. An uptempo song for Brazil has also gained traction online.
But there’s less than a week until we get to hear the full glory of Shakira’s new gem.
