Presidential pardon granted to Henry Pedris posthumously

President Ranil Wickremesinghe has granted a Presidential Pardon posthumously to Diyunuge Edward Henry Pedris, who was unlawfully executed in 1915 after being unjustly tried by a Court-Martial appointed by the Proclamation issued by Robert Chalmers, the Governor of Ceylon on 25 June 1915.

Issuing an extraordinary gazette notification, President Wickremesinghe has granted the relevant pardon in terms of the powers vested in him under Article 33(h) read with Article 34 of the Constitution of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, effective from 12 September 2024.
