Starting today, Ontario’s minimum wage has increased to $17.60 per hour, a 40-cent boost representing a 2.4% rise based on the Ontario Consumer Price Index. The hike will benefit nearly 800,000 workers across the province.
This adjustment now makes Ontario’s minimum wage the second highest in Canada, following British Columbia.
Alongside the general increase, other wage categories have also gone up:
Student minimum wage: $16.60 per hour
Home-based workers: $19.35 per hour
According to provincial data, 36% of minimum wage earners work in retail, while 23% are in accommodation and food services.
Ontario isn’t alone in raising wages today — Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Nova Scotia, and Prince Edward Island are also rolling out new minimum wage increases.
The province says the change aims to ensure workers’ earnings keep pace with the cost of living, providing more stability for households in a time of rising expenses.
