More than 2600 Subaru Outbacks recalled due to reversing safety fault

The Subaru Outback’s rear-view camera and reversing lights may not function, increasing the risk of running over pedestrians or hitting another vehicle.

Subaru Australia has recalled 2610 examples of the 2021-2022 Subaru Outback, due to a manufacturing fault which could lead the wagon’s rear-view camera and reverse lights to stop working.

The recall notice, lodged with the Department of Infrastructure, says: “Due to a manufacturing issue, the Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) inhibitor switch may not be sealed sufficiently allowing moisture to enter potentially causing corrosion of the circuit board.

“As a result, the reverse lamps may not illuminate and/or the rear-view camera may not display the rear-view image whilst reversing as intended.

“If the reverse lamps and/or the rear-view camera do not operate as intended, it may impact the safety of other traffic, or any persons located behind the vehicle increasing the risk of an accident-causing serious injury or death to vehicle occupants and/or other road users.”
