Ongoing unrest in the Middle East has caused significant disruptions to Sri Lanka’s international parcel services, according to Postmaster General Ruwan Sathkumara.
Sathkumara explained that the surge in cancelled flights to Middle Eastern destinations has directly impacted postal operations, delaying shipments and creating obstacles for sending goods to several countries. Several consignments collected last Friday remain undelivered due to flight cancellations and operational restrictions in the region.
Postal authorities have notified the public about the interruptions and are actively coordinating with postal administrations in affected countries to manage the situation. While Sathkumara expressed hope that normal service would resume once conditions improve, he cautioned that perishable or time-sensitive shipments may face significant risks if delays continue.
The disruptions are affecting not only Sri Lankan senders but also recipients overseas, highlighting the broader impact of the regional crisis on global logistics.
