US Secretary of State Marco Rubio is set to visit India for a four-day official tour beginning May 23, with discussions expected to focus on strengthening cooperation in trade, defence, energy, and security.
The US Department of State confirmed the visit, noting that Rubio will travel across multiple Indian cities including Kolkata, Agra, Jaipur, and New Delhi during his stay from May 23 to May 26.
State Department spokesperson Tommy Pigott said Rubio’s engagements in India will involve high-level meetings with senior government officials, where key bilateral and strategic issues will be addressed.
“Secretary Rubio will travel to India from May 23–26, where he will visit Kolkata, Agra, Jaipur, and New Delhi,” Pigott stated.
He added that the discussions will cover energy collaboration, defence ties, trade relations, and broader security cooperation between the two nations.
Rubio is expected to arrive in India after attending the NATO Foreign Ministers’ meeting in Sweden on May 22.
His visit comes ahead of a major Quad foreign ministers’ meeting scheduled in New Delhi on May 26, where global and regional challenges—including developments in West Asia—are expected to be discussed.
The Quad meeting will bring together foreign ministers from India, the United States, Australia, and Japan. It will be chaired by Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, with participation from US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong, and Japanese Foreign Minister Yoko Kamikawa Motegi.
The talks are expected to further strengthen strategic alignment among the four Indo-Pacific partners amid growing geopolitical tensions.
