Sri Lanka Sees Spike in LP Gas Prices Amid Global Market Surge

Litro Gas Lanka has announced a rise in domestic LP gas prices, effective from midnight, citing increased global energy costs driven by ongoing international conflicts.

The company noted that the surge in world market prices has pushed up import expenses. In consideration of the approaching New Year and rising living costs, Litro Gas has opted for a controlled increase, absorbing part of the extra expense instead of passing it entirely onto consumers.

The new prices for Colombo District are:

  • 12.5kg cylinder: Up by Rs. 775, now Rs. 4,765
  • 5kg cylinder: Up by Rs. 308, now Rs. 1,910
  • 2.3kg cylinder: Up by Rs. 140, now Rs. 890

Litro Gas also confirmed that sufficient stocks are available to maintain continuous supply across the country. Approximately 38,000 metric tons of LP gas scheduled for April are currently in floating storage in the Maldives.

Two key shipments are on their way: the vessel Luigi Galvani with 20,000 metric tons is approaching the Maldives, while the Freycinet has departed from South America with another 20,000 metric tons. These shipments are expected to keep supplies stable through May.

Chairman Channa Gunawardena emphasized the company’s commitment to ensuring uninterrupted LP gas availability despite global market challenges.
