Sri Lanka delivered a commanding performance to secure a comprehensive 100-run win over Oman in their Group B fixture at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium.
Set a daunting target of 226, Oman struggled to keep pace and finished on 120 for 9 in their 20 overs. Mohammad Nadeem stood firm with an unbeaten 53 from 56 balls, but lacked support from the other end.
Sri Lanka’s bowlers kept tight control throughout the innings, with Maheesh Theekshana and Dushmantha Chameera claiming two wickets each to ensure the visitors never threatened the chase.
Earlier, the hosts piled up a tournament-best 225 for 5 after being invited to bat first. Half-centuries from Kusal Mendis and Pavan Rathnayake laid a strong foundation before Dasun Shanaka produced a blistering late assault to lift the total beyond the 200 mark.
Mendis struck 61 off 45 deliveries, Rathnayake hammered 60 from just 28 balls, while Shanaka smashed 50 in only 20 balls — reaching the milestone in 19 deliveries, the fastest fifty by a Sri Lankan in T20 internationals.
For Oman, left-arm seamer Jiten Ramanandi was the pick of the bowlers with two scalps.
Sri Lanka will now turn their focus to a highly anticipated clash against Australia on Monday at the same venue.
