Lionel Messi became only the second player in football history to score 900 top-level career goals, netting during Inter Miami’s match against Nashville SC on Wednesday.
The landmark goal came just seven minutes into the Concacaf Champions Cup last-16 second-leg fixture at Geodis Park in Tennessee. Since joining Inter Miami in June 2023, the 38-year-old forward has scored 81 goals in 92 appearances, helping the club capture both the League Cup and MLS Cup.
Messi, widely regarded as one of the greatest footballers of all time, has previously dazzled for Barcelona football club”], [“sports_team”,”Paris Saint-Germain”,”French football club”], and the Argentina Samuel Eto’o in a La Liga match against Albacete in May 2005, he scored the first of 672 goals he would go on to net for the Catalan club across 778 appearances. Messi’s stint at Paris Saint-Germain lasted two seasons, producing 32 goals in 75 games alongside Neymar Jr and Kylian Mbappe. After the 2022-23 season, and following his World Cup triumph with Argentina in Qatar, he moved to MLS side Inter Miami, co-owned by David Beckham.
On the international stage, Messi has earned 196 caps for Argentina, scoring 115 goals, solidifying his legacy as one of the most prolific goal-scorers in football history.
