Scope Cinemas Fully Acquired by Liberty Lands & Developments

Liberty Lands & Developments (LLD) has completed the acquisition of the remaining shares in Scope Cinemas, bringing the cinema operator fully under its control as part of a wider restructuring strategy.

The move represents a key milestone in LLD’s plan to streamline its business operations and strengthen its presence in the entertainment sector. By taking complete ownership of Scope Cinemas, the group aims to improve coordination across its portfolio while continuing to enhance the movie-going experience for audiences.

As part of the transition, Thushan Rangana Meemanage will step down from his roles as Chief Executive Officer and Director of Scope Cinemas, along with his positions in affiliated entities, effective March 31. The leadership change aligns with the company’s evolving strategic direction.

Naveed Cader has been appointed Interim CEO with immediate effect, while continuing to serve as Executive Chairman. His dual role is expected to provide stability during the transition and guide the company through its next stage of growth.

LLD manages a diverse business portfolio that includes entertainment, hospitality, real estate, and food and beverage ventures. Its key holdings include Scope Cinemas and Food Studio, along with strategic investments in Alhambra Hotels and Cine Digital.

Commenting on the development, Cader noted that the acquisition forms part of a broader effort to align the group’s operations and position Scope Cinemas for future expansion. He emphasised the company’s commitment to building a resilient and forward-looking organisation while maintaining high standards in customer experience.

Scope Cinemas remains a major player in Sri Lanka’s film exhibition industry, known for its focus on modernising cinema experiences.
