John Keells CG Auto (Pvt) Ltd (JKCG) has issued an official statement addressing recent concerns surrounding the importation of BYD electric vehicles into Sri Lanka.
Responding to media speculation and public queries, the company confirmed that all vehicles were imported directly from BYD in China and meet all local regulatory requirements. These 100 kW models are the same variants sold in highly regulated international markets like Singapore, JKCG emphasized.
To dispel doubts about the vehicles’ motor power ratings, JKCG clarified that the output was validated through official documentation provided by BYD and independently certified by a third-party testing agency. These tests affirm the EVs’ compliance with both performance and safety standards.
“Contrary to misinformation on social and mainstream media, the imported vehicles are authentic, compliant, and meet international benchmarks,” the company stated.
JKCG reaffirmed its dedication to transparency, ethical practices, and consumer trust, adding that it continues to engage with regulatory bodies to resolve any remaining queries. All documentation has already been submitted to the relevant authorities.
“As a responsible corporate entity, we remain open, transparent, and cooperative. Our priority is maintaining confidence in both our operations and the BYD brand,” JKCG concluded.
This clarification follows growing public scrutiny of electric vehicle imports into Sri Lanka. JKCG assured stakeholders that they will continue to communicate openly as the matter progresses.
