The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 has rewritten the record books in India, surpassing 500 million viewers the highest audience ever recorded for any edition of the tournament. With the semi-finals and final still ahead, viewership figures are widely expected to climb even further.
ICC Chairman Jay Shah described the milestone as a landmark moment for the global game. Writing on X, he noted that the vision behind the 2026 tournament was to make it the most globally accessible and widely followed T20 World Cup to date. He expressed pride that Indian viewership alone had crossed the 500 million mark, setting a new all-time record for the competition.
He also highlighted the digital surge during the event, revealing that concurrent streaming on JioHotstar peaked at 60.5 million viewers, underlining the tournament’s massive online footprint. With the knockout stage beginning, he voiced optimism that the passionate support from Indian fans would help push engagement numbers even higher.
Attention now shifts to the business end of the tournament. The first semi-final will be staged at Eden Gardens, where the New Zealand national cricket team, captained by Mitchell Santner, take on the unbeaten South Africa national cricket team, led by Aiden Markram. South Africa, the only team yet to taste defeat in the tournament, will aim to extend their impressive run and book a second successive T20 World Cup final berth.
The second semi-final will unfold at Wankhede Stadium, featuring the India national cricket team against the England cricket team. India head into the contest after a crucial Super 8 victory over West Indies, while England, led by Harry Brook, arrive with strong momentum following a five-match winning streak.
With record-breaking viewership already secured and high-intensity knockout clashes on the horizon, the 2026 edition is shaping up to be one of the most memorable tournaments in T20 World Cup history.
