Top ICC Representatives Expected in Sri Lanka

A senior delegation from the International Cricket Council (ICC) is set to arrive in Sri Lanka following recent developments in the country’s Cricket administration, according to Indian media reports.

The visit comes in the wake of the Sri Lankan government appointing an interim committee to oversee the operations of Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) after a leadership shake-up.

Reports indicate that ICC Deputy Chairman Imran Khwaja is expected to arrive in Colombo on Friday night. He will reportedly be followed by another senior ICC official, who also holds a key position within the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

The government’s move to appoint a nine-member interim panel was announced on April 29 by Sports Minister Sunil Kumara Gamage. The decision followed the resignation of SLC President Shammi Silva along with the executive committee.

The newly formed committee is chaired by Eran Wickramaratne, a former investment banker and opposition figure. It also includes prominent former Sri Lankan cricketers such as Kumar Sangakkara and Roshan Mahanama.

The interim body has been tasked with introducing reforms and stabilising the governance of Sri Lanka Cricket during this transitional period.

The ICC delegation’s visit is expected to focus on assessing the situation and engaging with local authorities regarding the future direction of cricket administration in the country.
