After weeks of relatively mild, spring-like weather, the UK is set to face a return of wintry conditions, with heavy rain and a chance of snow in several regions.
According to the Met Office, while southern and eastern areas may see occasional sunny breaks, much of the country should prepare for unsettled weather on Thursday. Strong winds, cloud cover, and heavy showers are expected, particularly over western hills.
Blustery showers are forecast for the northwest, and snow could appear on Scotland’s mountains. The Lake District may receive up to 50mm of rainfall, with additional heavy rain possible further south.
Temperatures are predicted to fall nationwide on Friday. Jason Kelly, chief operational meteorologist at the Met Office, noted that “a shift to north-westerly winds will bring colder conditions across the country, with a mix of sunny spells, heavy showers, coastal gales, and snow on higher ground.” He also warned that snow could accumulate on lower hills in some areas, and advised keeping up with forecasts as the week progresses.
