A television adaptation of the globally successful Fast & Furious franchise is currently in development for Peacock, according to NBCUniversal.
The announcement was made by actor Vin Diesel during a presentation to advertisers at Radio City Music Hall, where he revealed that multiple television projects were being explored based on the long-running action franchise. However, later statements from NBCUniversal confirmed that only one “Fast & Furious” series is officially in active development at this stage.
Diesel, who portrays Dominic Toretto in the films, shared that he was initially cautious about expanding the franchise beyond the big screen, concerned that continuing the storyline might impact its legacy. Over time, however, the success and global fan demand helped shift that perspective.
The announcement comes as the franchise approaches its 25th anniversary, which will be celebrated at the Cannes Film Festival with a special midnight screening attended by cast members, including Diesel himself.
Since its debut in 2001, the Fast & Furious film series has become one of Hollywood’s most successful action franchises, generating more than $7 billion at the global box office across 11 films.
Beyond film and television, the franchise continues to expand into theme park attractions, including a new roller coaster at Universal Studios Hollywood and additional rides planned for Universal Orlando Resort.
Diesel credited Donna Langley of NBCUniversal for helping ensure the integrity and long-term vision of the franchise as it transitions into television storytelling.
The final installment of the film series is currently scheduled for release in March 2028, marking the end of one of the most commercially successful action franchises in modern cinema.
