The ‘Ehi Passiko’ Peace Walk, led by Venerable Pannakara Thera and a delegation of monks, reached a significant milestone yesterday as participants journeyed from Yakkala Abeysekararamaya to the revered Kelaniya Raja Maha Viharaya. The spiritual walk, which has drawn widespread public support, will conclude today (April 28) with a series of key events in Colombo.
The walk, joined by 13 monks from Vietnam, has attracted thousands of devotees along its route. Despite intense heat, large crowds have accompanied the monks, demonstrating deep श्रद्धा and unity. In a moving display of devotion, many supporters laid banana leaves and cloth along the roads to protect the monks’ feet from the scorching ground.
This morning, a special interactive session is scheduled at the Kelaniya Temple, where schoolchildren and university students will engage in discussions centered on peace, mindfulness, and spiritual values.
Following this, the procession will continue towards Independence Square, where a state ceremony is set to take place at 4:00 pm under the patronage of Anura Kumara Dissanayake. A significant highlight of the ceremony will be the official presentation of a sapling from the sacred Sri Maha Bodhi to Venerable Pannakara Thera and the visiting delegation.
The walk will then resume at 5:30 pm, proceeding towards its final destination at Gangaramaya Temple, where the campaign will formally conclude at 7:00 pm.
The Ehi Passiko Peace Walk stands as a powerful symbol of unity, resilience, and the enduring message of peace, bringing together communities across Sri Lanka in a shared spiritual journey.
