Easter Sunday Observed Worldwide in Celebration of Jesus Christ’s Resurrection

Christians around the world are observing Easter Sunday, commemorating the resurrection of Jesus Christ—a defining moment in Christianity that represents hope, renewal, and the triumph of life over death.

In Sri Lanka, this year’s observances carry deep reflection as communities also remember the victims of the 2019 Sri Lanka Easter bombings. Churches across the country held special prayers not only to celebrate the resurrection but also to honour those who lost their lives and to stand in solidarity with affected families.

Religious services were conducted with heightened reverence, blending celebration with remembrance. Many worshippers gathered in prayer, lighting candles and offering tributes, reinforcing messages of peace, unity, and resilience.

Easter follows the solemn observance of Good Friday, which marks the crucifixion of Jesus. His resurrection on the third day is regarded by Christians as a powerful symbol of faith and redemption.

Religious leaders, both in Sri Lanka and globally, used the occasion to call for harmony, compassion, and vigilance, urging communities to uphold unity in the face of past tragedies while embracing the enduring message of Easter—hope beyond hardship.
