Former India captain Rahul Dravid is set to be honoured with the Col CK Nayudu Lifetime Achievement Award at the BCCI’s annual Naman Awards, which will take place in Delhi on March 15.
Dravid, widely regarded as one of the greatest batsmen of his era, was a key member of India’s legendary ‘Big Four’ alongside Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, and VVS Laxman. Known as “The Wall” for his ability to anchor innings over long periods, Dravid amassed over 10,000 ODI runs and excelled in Test cricket, helping India shed the tag of being vulnerable away from home.
After retiring from international cricket in 2012, Dravid briefly worked as a commentator before moving into coaching. He later took charge of the India Under-19 team, leading them to the 2018 Under-19 World Cup title with players such as Shubman Gill and Prithvi Shaw in the squad. During this period, he also worked closely with the India A side.
In 2021, Dravid was appointed head coach of the senior Indian cricket team, succeeding Ravi Shastri. Under his guidance, India finished as runners-up to Australia in the 2023 ODI World Cup at home, before going on to clinch the 2024 T20 World Cup in the West Indies and the USA.
At the same event, Shubman Gill will be recognised with the Cricketer of the Year Award, while Ayush Mhatre from Mumbai will receive the Lala Amarnath Award for the best all-rounder in domestic limited-overs cricket. The BCCI is also considering honouring former India captain Mithali Raj with a lifetime achievement award.
Dravid’s award highlights his remarkable contributions to Indian cricket, both as a player and as a coach, cementing his legacy as one of the sport’s all-time greats.
