One of Dubai’s most recognisable landmarks, the Burj Al Arab, is set to temporarily close as it embarks on an extensive refurbishment programme aimed at elevating its world-famous luxury experience.
Since opening in December 1999, the sail-shaped hotel has stood as a defining symbol of Dubai, renowned for its striking design, man-made island location, and reputation as one of the most luxurious hotels in the world.
After more than 25 years of continuous operation, the property will undergo an 18-month transformation designed to refresh its interiors while maintaining its iconic identity. The renovation project will be led by acclaimed French interior architect Tristan Auer, known for blending heritage craftsmanship with modern design elements.
Auer’s portfolio includes prestigious global projects such as the Hôtel de Crillon, where he has earned recognition for his refined and detail-oriented approach to restoration.
According to Jumeirah, the refurbishment will follow a carefully planned programme focused on enhancing, preserving, and upgrading the hotel’s interiors while retaining its distinctive character. The initiative is part of a long-term strategy to ensure the landmark continues to set global standards in luxury hospitality.
The temporary closure marks a new chapter for the Burj Al Arab, with expectations that the upgraded property will offer an even more elevated guest experience upon reopening.
