Sri Lanka Banks’ Association has confirmed that banks across the country will continue to operate from Monday to Friday, maintaining their role as an essential public service despite ongoing fuel conservation measures.
According to the association, banking services will remain available throughout the week to ensure uninterrupted access for customers, businesses, and other financial activities. However, a temporary adjustment has been introduced for Wednesdays, with branches operating on limited hours from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. as part of efforts to manage fuel usage efficiently.
The SLBA emphasized that these measures are intended to balance the need for continued financial services with the current fuel management requirements. Customers are encouraged to plan their visits accordingly and make use of alternative banking options where possible.
In particular, the association strongly advised the public to rely on digital banking platforms, including mobile and online services, to carry out routine transactions. By reducing unnecessary visits to physical branches, customers can help ease congestion and support the smooth functioning of banking operations during this period.
Banks also assured that all essential services will remain accessible, and steps have been taken to minimize any inconvenience caused by the revised operating hours.
