Actress Jennifer Runyon, Known for ‘Ghostbusters’ and ‘Charles in Charge,’ Passes Away at 65

Jennifer Runyon, the actress recognized for her appearances in the films Ghostbusters and the CBS sitcom Charles in Charge, has passed away at the age of 65. She died on March 6 following a short battle with cancer.

Her close friend and fellow actress Erin Murphy confirmed the news in a Facebook post, expressing her sadness over the loss. Murphy described Runyon as a warm and special person, adding that she would be deeply missed and sending condolences to her family and children.

Runyon began her film career in 1980 with the horror movie To All a Good Night. She later appeared in supporting roles in several comedies, including Up the Creek and the popular supernatural comedy Ghostbusters, both released in 1984.

The same year, she gained television recognition when she starred as Gwendolyn Pierce in the first season of the sitcom Charles in Charge. Her television work continued with a memorable role as Cindy Brady in the 1988 TV movie A Very Brady Christmas.

Throughout the late 1980s and early 1990s, Runyon appeared in a variety of projects. She played the lead role in the film The In Crowd and was featured in the comedy 18 Again!. She also appeared in the pilot episode of the science-fiction series Quantum Leap and made guest appearances on shows such as Murder, She Wrote and Beverly Hills, 90210.

Born on April 1, 1960, in Chicago, Runyon came from an entertainment background. Her father, Jim Runyon, worked as a radio announcer and disc jockey, while her mother, Jane Roberts, was also an actress.

In 1991, she married Todd Corman, a college basketball coach who was also involved in film and television production during the off-season. The couple had two children, a son named Wyatt and a daughter named Bayley.

Later in life, Runyon stepped back from the entertainment industry. In 2014, she revealed that she had largely retired from acting and was focusing on working as a teacher.

Friends and admirers remembered her as someone full of warmth and kindness, with many tributes highlighting her love for her family and the joy she brought to those around her.
