Aamir Khan Shares Update on Potential 3 Idiots Part 2

Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan has officially confirmed that a sequel to the iconic film 3 Idiots is currently in development, putting an end to years of speculation surrounding the beloved franchise.

In a recent interview, Aamir revealed that acclaimed filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani is actively working on the project alongside writer Abhijat Joshi. While the script is still being refined, the actor noted that the central storyline has already taken shape and promises a blend of freshness and nostalgia.

The upcoming film is expected to feature a 10-year time jump, revisiting the lives of the original characters—Rancho, Farhan, and Raju—at a significantly different stage in their journeys. Aamir also confirmed that he will return to his role as Phunsukh Wangdu, famously known as Rancho.

“It’s the story of the same characters you saw in 3 Idiots but set 10 years later. The concept is unusual and retains the humour of the original,” Aamir shared.

The sequel aims to explore how the trio’s lives have evolved over the decade, while maintaining the emotional depth, friendship themes, and social commentary that made the original film a cult classic.

Released in 2009, 3 Idiots featured an ensemble cast including R. Madhavan, Sharman Joshi, Kareena Kapoor Khan, and Boman Irani. The film received widespread critical acclaim and became one of the highest-grossing Bollywood films, largely due to its humorous yet hard-hitting take on India’s education system.

Aamir also mentioned another collaboration with Rajkumar Hirani—a biopic on Dadasaheb Phalke—which has currently been delayed as the script undergoes further development.

With 3 Idiots 2 now officially in progress, fans can look forward to a nostalgic yet contemporary continuation of a story that continues to resonate with audiences across generations.
