Dubai Metro Blue Line Reaches 10% Completion in Just Five Months

Dubai’s ambitious Metro Blue Line project has achieved 10% completion in only five months, marking a significant step forward in connecting the city’s key residential, academic, and economic districts with world-class transport infrastructure.

The Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announced that construction on the Dubai Metro Blue Line has reached 10% completion within just five months of its groundbreaking in June 2025. The project, spanning 30 kilometres and 14 stations, is scheduled for completion by September 9, 2029.

More than 500 engineers and experts, supported by 3,000 workers across 12 active sites, are driving the project forward at an accelerated pace to meet its ambitious deadlines. The initiative aims to link residential, industrial, and economic hubs across Dubai, reinforcing the city’s reputation for forward-thinking urban mobility.

Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors at RTA, highlighted that this milestone underscores Dubai’s commitment to excellence and innovation in public transportation.

“The Blue Line connects the Red and Green Lines of the Dubai Metro and serves areas expected to accommodate around one million residents by 2040,” Al Tayer stated. “It will also provide direct journeys to Dubai International Airport in just 20 minutes, enhancing connectivity and quality of life while realising the city’s ‘20-minute concept’ — ensuring access to over 80% of essential services within 20 minutes.”

🛠️ Two Main Directions of the Line
The Dubai Metro Blue Line extends in two directions:

First Route (21 km, 10 stations): From Creek Interchange Station on the Green Line in Al Jaddaf, passing through Dubai Festival City, Dubai Creek Harbour, and Ras Al Khor Industrial Area, continuing through International City (1, 2, and 3), Dubai Silicon Oasis, and ending at Dubai Academic City.

Second Route (9 km, 4 stations): Beginning at Centrepoint Interchange Station on the Red Line in Al Rashidiya, passing through Mirdif and Al Warqa, and connecting to International City (1).

The project also includes a depot and maintenance facility in Al Ruwayyah 3, designed to support operational efficiency once the line becomes fully functional.

🏗️ Progress and Engineering Highlights
RTA reported substantial engineering progress across multiple sites:

Over 260 deep foundations completed.

400,000 cubic metres of excavation already underway.

Construction of station columns in Academic City and retaining walls at key underground stations like International City (1).

The project consortium has established two ready-mix concrete plants and two yards for the production and storage of precast concrete elements in Al Ruwayyah 3 and International City, ensuring efficient production, quality control, and reduced logistics timelines.

Notably, the consortium has achieved over 3 million safe work hours without any fatalities — a testament to Dubai’s focus on worker safety and precision engineering.

🌆 Looking Ahead
By the end of next year, the RTA expects the project to reach 30% completion, positioning it as one of the most transformative developments in Dubai’s public transport network. Once complete, the Blue Line will seamlessly connect the Red and Green Metro lines, reduce travel times, and support Dubai’s sustainability and urban development goals.
