White House to Begin Construction of $200M Trump-Funded Ballroom in September

The White House is set to begin construction this September on a $200 million ballroom, a project championed by President Donald Trump and funded through his personal finances and private donations.

The ballroom, to be located on the east side of the White House, will span 90,000 square feet and is designed to host up to 650 guests—200 more than the current East Room capacity. The addition is intended to provide a grander venue for state functions, formal receptions, and large-scale events.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt described the project as an “innately designed and carefully crafted” addition that will enhance the mansion’s hospitality capabilities while preserving its architectural integrity. Renderings reveal a lavish interior marked by white and gold finishes, expansive windows, and a prominent presence on the South Lawn.

The East Wing will also undergo modernization, requiring the temporary relocation of staff, including aides to First Lady Melania Trump. Originally constructed in 1902, the East Wing has seen several renovations, including a second floor added in 1942.

White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles stated:

“President Trump is a builder at heart and has an extraordinary eye for detail. This ballroom will honor the White House’s heritage while serving future generations.”

The design and construction are being led by Clark Construction and McCrery Architects, based in Washington, D.C. Completion is expected before the end of Trump’s current term in 2029.
