Three Chinese nationals have been arrested by Customs officials at Bandaranaike International Airport for allegedly attempting to illegally bring a large consignment of mobile phones and batteries into the country.
The suspects include a 34-year-old Chinese woman and two Chinese men aged 35.
According to Customs authorities, the seized stock is estimated to be valued at around Rs. 5.14 million.
Officials recovered 87 mobile phones along with 140 batteries believed to be intended for use with the devices.
The three suspects had reportedly arrived in Sri Lanka on a flight from Shanghai, China, Customs officials said.
