2024 Ford Transit Custom Sport to join new line-up

[ad_1]

The Transit Custom Sport will be offered in multiple body styles as part of the broader, new-generation Ford Transit Custom range.

The Ford Transit Custom Sport will arrive in Australia in the third quarter of 2024 (July to September) alongside the rest of the new-generation Transit Custom line-up.

The Transit Custom Sport – introduced locally in 2019 – will return to Ford Australia showrooms in short-wheelbase (SWB) Van body style and long-wheelbase (LWB) Double Cab form.

The Transit Custom Sport Double Cab adds a second row of seating to the vehicle to enable up to five occupants, which can be removed for more cargo space if needed.

Priced from $59,990 before on-road costs, the Transit Custom Sport Van costs $3400 over the Transit Custom Trend it is based upon.

The Transit Custom Sport Double Cab is priced at $62,990 before on-road costs as the most expensive non-electric Transit Custom, with the LWB Trend not offered as a Double Cab.

Options on both Sport variants include a rear lift-gate ($700) instead of the standard rear barn doors, and dual side doors without windows for $1000, as well as five exclusive prestige paint colour options ($700).

They’re part of Transit Custom Sport’s visual exterior changes, including over-the-roof stripe graphics, body styling kit and alloy wheels.

Ford Australia is yet to confirm any interior tweaks, but the previous Transit Custom Sport cabin changes included sports seats and steering wheel treatment among others.

The Sport shares key features with the Trend, including the new 12-inch partially digital dash, and a 13-inch Ford ’Sync 4’ infotainment touchscreen with wireless and wired Apple CarPlay/Android Auto.

Safety technology sees autonomous emergency braking (AEB), adaptive cruise control and rear-cross traffic alert fitted as standard.

The Transit Custom Sport uses the same 125kW/390Nm 2.0-litre turbo-diesel four-cylinder engine and eight-speed automatic transmission as the Transit Custom Trend.

The Sport is 46kg heavier in SWB Van form, weighing 2002kg (kerb weight) for a marginal reduction in payload from 1269kg to 1023kg, but all new Transit Customs have the same 2500kg tow rating.

Both SWB Sport and SWB Trend offer a 5.8-cubic metre load area and are 5050mm long, 2275mm wide and 1963mm high.

Figures for the Sport Double Cab cargo area have not been announced, but are expected to be slightly less than the 6.8-cubic metre capacity of the LWB Trend given the Sport’s additional seating.

Transit Sports will include new integrated roof racks, which will also become standard on Trend from the third quarter of 2024.

The new Ford Transit Custom Trend is due to arrive in the second quarter (April to June), but Ford Australia has confirmed the updates will apply to all ‘MY24.5’ vehicles from the third quarter of 2024.

Also arriving will be two new option packs for long-wheelbase (LWB) Trend; the ‘Secure Visibility Pack’ and ‘Load Space Air Conditioning’.

The $1500 Secure Visibility Pack comes with steel rear doors in place of the standard window barn doors as well as a metal bulkhead and multi-mode Digital Rear View Mirror (DRVM).

The DRVM uses two cameras and has recording capability, so it can operate as a dash-cam.

Load Space Air Conditioning is a $700 option and provides temperature regulation for the cargo area, with Ford keen to point out it is distinct from refrigeration.
