Yupun records impressive 10.03 secs in Belgium

Sri Lankan sprinter Yupun Abeykoon achieved a remarkable timing of 10.03 seconds and won the first place in men’s 100m race at the Continental Tour Bronze Night Of Athletics held in Belgium on Saturday (19).

The wind speed at the time of the race was recorded at +4.7. This can be understood to have brought some comfort to Yupun’s running. The time recorded by the athlete who came in second was 10.17 seconds.

This can be considered as the best running time recorded by Yupun in recent times. Even with the wind speed, it can be assumed that this running time will provide big boost for his upcoming events.

Earlier Yupun Abeykoon won Meeting Giuseppe Thomassoni meet held in Italy on July 11 with a time of 10.21 seconds in the final. He won the last Commonwealth Games 100m bronze but due to injuries he couldn’t take part last Asian Meet and his target is to take part in next Asian and world meets before next Olympics.

Yupun became the first South Asian to break the 10-Second barrier for the men’s 100 meters event at the Resisprint International competition, with a timing of 9.96 seconds, in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland in 2022.

He is currently regarded as the fastest Sri Lankan man as well as fastest South Asian man in men’s 100m and 200m disciplines.
